The North East Learning Trust was founded by The Academy at Shotton Hall in Peterlee in 2015.

Our multi-academy Trust exists to give children across the North East of England the very best education and is founded on the deeply held principle that every child has the right to an excellent education.
Introducing our Ashington Academy Attendance Hub
In January 2024, NELT secondary school, Ashington Academy, was chosen to lead one of 18 new attendance hubs across England - a centre of excellence introduced to help other schools improve attendance by sharing expertise, strategies, and resources.

Ashington Academy was chosen for its strong track record in maintaining high attendance, effectively addressing poor attendance, and delivering above-average exam results and student progress- making this recognition another significant achievement for the school.

NELT in a nutshell
Formed in 2015, the North East Learning Trust is a multi-academy trust founded by The Academy at
Shotton Hall in Peterlee. We are a family of 13 schools and we also deliver initial teacher training through
our outstanding school-based provider, North East SCITT, to ensure new teachers are trained to our own
high standards.
All schools in the Trust share a simple, shared vision - that every child experiences excellence every day.
We are all committed to working together to ensure that every child thrives in a safe, stimulating
environment where they develop a deep love of learning that will stay with them for their whole lives.
